What's in a name?

A green wave is a traffic management technique where traffic lights are programmed to manage traffic congestion and create optimal traffic flow in a major city.

Have you ever driven through a major city and received a continuous flow of green traffic lights?  Or conversely received all red traffic lights?  By design the traffic lights have been programmed to either encourage or discourage motorists to use or not use a particular route through that major city. The phasing of traffic lights is well planned and strategic, aiming to improve the overall traffic flow in the city.

The continuous flow of green traffic lights is known as a 'green wave'.
