Project Highlights
The following outlines several of Green Wave International’s major event project accomplishments:
2014 G20 Summit
Green Wave International's Managing Director was appointed to the role of Director of Transport for the G20 Leaders' Summit in Brisbane 2014 where she was responsible for the vehicles and sequencing of motorcade movements for 34 World Leaders. Rebecca was also responsible for transport for attending delegates, international and domestic media and workforce. To deliver this, Rebecca was responsible for car-with-driver services, bus operations, parking, vehicle permitting, workforce park and rides, airport arrivals and departures including baggage transfers, traffic management plans and implementation of all road closure support for motorcade routes, city wide strategic diversions, traffic management plans and implementation for all venues and sole use hotels, stakeholder engagement and the traffic and transport input into strategic communications for the summit.
2013 Road National Cycling Championships & Amy's Ride
Green Wave International delivered Traffic and Transport Services on behalf of Cycling Australia and the Amy Gillett Foundation. The event was considered a huge success and consisted of a fully locked down crit circuit, a time trial course and road race course. Green Wave International's role was to manage the traffic management process and implementation of road closures, liaison with Roads Authorities, local council, Police, Department of Transport and traffic implementation company.
2012 London Olympic Games
Green Wave International's Managing Director Rebecca Sturgeon was appointed to the role of Senior Operations & Integration Manager at the Olympic Delivery Authority where she was responsible for spectator transport integration for the outer London venues. Rebecca established the Eton Dorney Transport Integration Centre, where she led a multi-disciplinary team of five local authorities, jurisdictional services, road authorities, public transport providers and Games transport providers to deliver integrated traffic and transport solutions for 25,000 spectators over 14 days of competition.
2011, 2012 & 2013 Amy's Gran Fondo
Green Wave International delivered Traffic and Transport Services for Amy's Gran Fondo on behalf of Cycling Australia and the Amy Gillett Foundation. The event was considered a huge success and consisted of 120km of fully closed roads, including 40km of the iconic Great Ocean Road in Victoria. Green Wave International's role was to manage the traffic management process and implementation of road closures, liaison with Roads Authorities, local council, Police, Department of Transport and traffic implementation company.
2010 UCI Road World Championships
Green Wave International was appointed to provide Traffic and Transport services for the 2010 UCI Road World Championships. Key deliverables included traffic management planning and implementation of road closures for world championship cycling events conducted over six consecutive days. Green Wave International managed arrivals and departures, spectator park and ride, spectator catch-a-coach services (including bicycle transfers), local landlocked resident shuttles, workforce deployment, VIP and media shuttles, VIP fleet vehicles, operational vehicles, fuel, route planning, vehicle permits and parking.
Green Wave International worked with Department of Transport, local councils, Road Authorities, Police and traffic management companies to ensure all services were delivered to a world class standard. Approximately 200,000 spectators descended on Melbourne and Geelong for the events held in September / October 2010.
Dow Live Earth Run for Water
Green Wave International was engaged to manage the Traffic and Transport for the Dow Live Earth Run for Water, held at Docklands on Sunday 18 April 2010. The event was a 6km run / walk to represent how far families in third world countries typically walk each day to their nearest water source. The event was conducted simultaneously in more than 50 cities globally.
2008, 2009 and 2010 Community Safety Day at Docklands
Community Safety Day at Docklands enabled emergency service organisations and safety community groups to demonstrate their service capabilities to the general public. Green Wave International has project managed this event for three years on behalf of Victoria Police.
2008 World Youth Day
Green Wave International provided specialist consultancy to World Youth Day senior management on the progress of their planning and readiness for delivery of their transport operation. This included the transport of approximately 20,000 pilgrims and their accompanied baggage from Melbourne to Sydney (approximately 850 km / 650 miles).
Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games
Green Wave International’s Managing Director, Rebecca Sturgeon headed up the successful planning and operational delivery of the Traffic and Transport for the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games. As Program Manager, Traffic and Transport, Rebecca was responsible for delivery of:
- Arrival and Departure of over 9,000 athletes and officials, media, broadcast, technical officials and VIPs and accompanied baggage;
- Opening and Closing ceremony transport network (over 12,000 clients);
- Athlete and officials transport network for competition, training and other services (6,500 clients);
- Broadcast and media transport network (3,500 clients);
- Technical official transport network (1,200 clients);
- VIP T1 and T2 service (2,000 clients)
- Supplementary services (Workforce, Sponsors, Rate Card Broadcast)
Sydney 2000 Olympic and Paralympic Summer Games
Road Cycling Venue and Games Wide Parking
Green Wave International’s Managing Director, Rebecca Sturgeon was Venue Operations Manager – Road Cycling for Sydney 2000 Olympic and Paralympic Summer Games. In these roles, Rebecca was responsible for the overall operation of the venue and working with all reporting areas including accreditation, catering, cleaning and waste, communications, logistics, security and transport to ensure the effective running of the venue. Rebecca was also responsible for ensuring project managers and the Olympic Coordination Authority (OCA) built the temporary venue to the required specifications and in the timeframe required. Responsibilities also included the management and co-ordination of an estimated 200,000 spectators over 17.1 km of road cycling course with seven managed spectator gathering areas, 1400 staff (volunteers, paid staff and contractors).
Rebecca was also responsible Games Wide Parking. This involved designing the system for collection of parking requirements at all competition and non competition venues (40 venues), then balancing demand against the available parking space, determining the principles of priority upon which parking would be allocated, applying these principles in order to allocate parking spaces and then handing over to the Venue Manager / Operations Manager to manage in the lead up to the Games. Extensive liaison with Olympic Road Traffic Authority (ORTA) with regard to the vehicle permit design and representing the interests of constituent groups during the venue detailed design process to ensure that space for constituent parking was included in the Overlay design.
1999 Oceania Road Cycling Championships
The 1999 Oceania Road Cycling Championships was a Sydney 2000 Olympic Test Event. As Operations Manager, Rebecca Sturgeon’s role was to implement the overall venue operations, oversee the venue build, manage contractors and functional area managers on site and support competition management to ensure the overall success of the event.
1998 Sydney Harbour Regatta
The Sydney Harbour Regatta was the very first Sydney 2000 Olympic Test Event. As Assistant Operations Manager, Rebecca Sturgeon’s role was to write the Venue Operations Plan and manage the venue operations on site on a day to day basis. The event was significant in the overall planning and development of all Olympic test events and venue operations in the lead up to Games time.
1997 and 1998 Australian University Games
The Australian University Games is comparable in size to the Commonwealth Games with 5000 competitors, 20 sports and has a similar organisational structure to the World Masters Games. Rebecca was responsible for planning the operation of ten sports.
